In this study we focused on monitoring the temperature of water in the Bocegaj stream in order to investigate the effect of water turbidity on water temperature. The stream belongs to the basin of the Žitava River and it is the main recipient of the drainage of surface water from the territory. Water sampling was done at four locations, in May, June and October, in 2016 and 2018 (once a month at each location). Water temperature was measured on the field, by multimeter Hach Pro+ Multi 2. Turbidity was determined by turbidimeter PCcompact in the laboratory. Statistically significant correlations were found between water turbidity and the temperature of water at sampling point 1 in 2018 and sampling point 3 in 2016. The monitored water parameter (temperature) didn’t exceed the government’s limit, which is < 26 °C. Water temperature changed irregularly during the observing period at each location. This was caused by the season of the year (air temperature) and the amount trees and shrubs around the stream (which disable the complete penetration of sunlight). Water turbidity could have both negative and positive impact on water temperature. Higher water turbidity increases water temperature and suspended particles in the water absorb and scatter sunlight. A slightly higher turbidity at some sampling points was probably due to the bottom or bank erosion. The aim of the study was to determine impact of turbidity on temperature of water in Bocegaj stream. As we mentioned above the higher turbidity caused a higher temperature only at some sampling points.

Key words: water quality, temperature of water, water turbidity
